Wondering About God

Does God really love me?

Yes. Absolutely. God loves you. Please read the following verses from the Bible:

  • Romans 5:6 – For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.
  • Romans 5:7 – For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die.
  • Romans 5:8 – But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Does God really forgive?

God is always ready to forgive you. The two clearest verses in the Bible which explain this are John 3:16 and Romans 8:35-39.

  • John 3:16 – For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.
  • Romans 8:35 – Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
  • Romans 8:36 – Just as it is written, “FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE BEING PUT TO DEATH ALL DAY LONG; WE WERE CONSIDERED AS SHEEP TO BE SLAUGHTERED.”
  • Romans 8:37 – But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.
  • Romans 8:38 – For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,
  • Romans 8:39 – nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord

Why do I need to be forgiven?

Forgiveness is necessary because when we wrong someone the right thing to do is to apply justice. A wrong action needs to be corrected. Forgiveness is one of God’s ways of dealing with our failures, weaknesses, crimes, and sins against each other.

  • Romans 2:8-9 – but to those who are selfishly ambitious and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, wrath and indignation. [9] There will be tribulation and distress for every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek,
  • Romans 3:23 – For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Who is Jesus?

God sent Jesus to die on the cross to take the punishment for your failures and sins so you can be forgiven. Jesus is the Son of God who is ready and willing to forgive you for your failures and sins. Jesus died on the cross and three days later was resurrected from the dead.

  • 1 Corinthians 15:3-5 – For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, [4] and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, [5] and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.
  • Romans 5:8-11 – But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. [9] Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. [10] For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. [11] And not only this, but we also exult in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

How do I become forgiven for my failures and sins?

When you believe by faith alone in Jesus in his death and resurrection and tell God that you believe in Jesus then you will be forgiven. When you confess who Jesus is and ask for forgiveness you receive God’s forgiveness for your failures and sins.

  • Ephesians 2:4-10 – But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, [5] even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), [6] and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places, in Christ Jesus, [7] in order that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. [8] For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; [9] not as a result of works, that no one should boast. [10] For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
  • John 3:16 – For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.
  • You can say something like this to God: “Dear God, I know that I have failed. I am a sinner. I deserve to be punished. I believe Jesus Christ died for me and rose from the grave to be my forgiver. Please forgive me. Thank you for forgiving me. In Jesus name, Amen.”

How do I talk to God?

Answer: With a humble and respectful attitude you can talk to God in a conversational manner, silently or verbally, with “words” you normally use to talk to your friends.

  • Matthew 6:9-15 – Pray, then, in this way: Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. [10] Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. [11] Give us this day our daily bread. [12] And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. [13] And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. [14] For if you forgive men for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. [15] But if you do not forgive men, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.
